Featuring the Artists: Tiago Estrada, Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Maria João Salema, Isabel Pavão, Carlos Roque, Teresa Henriques
This exhibition showcases works by six Portuguese artists who have been living and working in New York: Tiago Estrada, Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Maria João Salema, Isabel Pavão, Carlos Roque and Teresa Henriques. It has been praised by His Excellency, João da Vallera, Ambassador of Portugal, in his message for the exhibition catalog, as “a singular opportunity for the general public to appreciate a truly representative mosaic of Portuguese contemporary art.”
At first glance, each group of works that make up *Geography of Affections: Six Portuguese Artists in New York,* appears unrelated to the others. In fact, the diversity of concepts and media makes them almost independent units operating in different ways in the same space. The contrasts are, therefore, fundamental. What unites these different artists and their very different artistic expression is their adopted geographic location, as well as the affection that grew over time between them and Rooster Gallery’s team.
Geography of Affections: Six Portuguese Artists in New York is the premier exhibition in an annual series that will continue to seek out and celebrate Portuguese art created in New York.
