RIGHT NOW: Cyland.Ru presents an exhibition on-line of Russian videoartist Boris Kazakov (St. Petersburg).

 

 

Boris Kazakov is a director and a painter, born in 1964, Leningrad. After school he graduated factory-based technical college. In 1988-1990 he engaged in painting and exhibited with an “Old city” (“Staryj Gorod”) group. Since 1990 he worked with a painter Inal Savchenkov as a part of “Art Engineers” School. In 1996 Boris Kazakov made his first movie “Nestlings of sea” (“Ptency Morya”), where he used traditional technique for alternative cinema, drawing on top of the film (scratch). This motion picture participated in Tampere and Stuttgart festivals, was given the diploma of jury in Oberhausen-1998. With his second film “Stakes” (“Koly”) director was invited to the competition of Berlin festival, Leipzig and Jerusalem festivals, was awarded the Grand Prize of “Kinoshock” festival. Boris Kazakov experiments a lot with cameraless animation, he also found a way to shoot films with a photo camera and works in traditional animation as well.
