Brown Beans and Black Magic" is a collection of video works by artist and director Tim Folland, combining aspects of live performance with B-movie magic to create fast paced comedic shorts, crammed with convenience store cultural symbolism and lighthearted mysticism. The focus of this work is the studio preoccupations of the “The Paintor", a down on his luck, low brow wizard. Through this character the artist constructs highly stylized narratives filled with supernatural homebrews, half craft inventions, and free wheeling work sessions that take action painting into the 21st century. Collectively, these works overflow with Folland´s character exploits and private rituals which construct his fantasy world of splintered pop culture tales, exaggerated cartoon drama, and slap stick absurdity.
