i am into production on my first-feature length documentary (tentatively titled "The Main") about a gay bar in my hometown. the doc looks at the life and history of the bar and its owner. on a broader scale, the doc is about social changes in small(er) town queer communities. recent attention has been given to the dissolution of historic gay enclaves in larger cities; this project is a case study in similar changes in smaller locations. it also emphasizes the need for archiving small town histories. whereas larger communities have possessed the resources to archive and maintain regional queer history, small communities face a potential loss of their history due to limited archival/history/etc resources.
this project is looking for funding and is now accepting donations (via check or credit card) through its fiscal sponsor, The Center for Independent Documentary. any support is greatly appreciated! there are numerous ways to access The Main's donation page. you can get there through the project's current (temporary) website at: http://www.juliecasperroth.com/mainclub.htm
i can answer any questions that you may have. thank you for your support!
