The James Cohan Gallery is proud to present five major works by the
late pioneering video artist Nam June Paik, opening March 24th and
running through April 21st. In conjunction with the exhibition, James
Cohan Gallery has invited renowned Fluxus artist Larry Miller to
present two performances in homage to Nam June Paik. These events will
take place at 6 pm on Saturday, March 24th and Saturday, April 14th.
Widely exhibited throughout his career, Paik worked closely with artists John Cage, Joseph Beuys, Charlotte Moorman and others involved in the Fluxus movement, focusing
on immediate, temporal and chance encounters between ideas, the object and the public.
His innovative combinations of music, video, sculpture, performance, television broadcast and technological experimentation offer subversive and often-humorous critiques of a culture consumed by technology.
[PAM]'s own Raphaele Shirley was lucky enough to be able to work with him for a number of years. The artist died at age 73 in January 2006.
