"water from a stone" the erotic in art PDF Print E-mail

These will change often... as they grow stale i remove to make way for the new.

the blog reflects the most recent videos produced, an alignment between thought processes and visual input/output. acting as a spiders web? to attract and give focus to the video which is upper crust in my mind

a mirror image as textual reference

"water from a stone" 3:43min video created very spontaneously after a discussion about the erotic in art. 'is it possible to portray eroticism and sensuality in art without blatant use of our  sex organs. is it necessary to offend, to shock, to reach the public ina  blatant way using body parts to get a reaction from them?'

'or does art and imagination provide us with tools to provoke without the portrayal of actual body parts, is it just as effective?'

Are artists able to create sensuality and eroticism in an environment where there is none.

How dead is a stone? yet in the video it is imbued with life... stone becomes penis and the actions of the artist create the erotic. induced eroticism.

There is also in this video the intention to represent a play between man and woman - the difficulty found in actual communication, "trying to get... water from a stone..." and a woman's ultimate power or "power" presumed... over a man... over that flesh called penis. Her manipulation of him ultimately, yet he still holds the locus of control - by getting what he wants. Her power is therefore proven to be "illusory".

i must just say - for absolute clarity sake - i have no objection to any use of body/ body parts even our most delicate in art, so don't get me wrong. body is beautiful. certainly more juicy than a stone! hahaha that was such fun making that video!! eek!!

i am merely pondering on the use of our body as a tool to portray a much larger picture - a much larger 'dilemma' - i can't spell that?

if in fact we are still at the stage in society as a whole - where the blatant display of out sexual organs and even our titties - is considered by a large majority as antagonistic - in art - to get a reaction as such - then we are not yet that open are we... ?

it's when we get no reaction whatsover that we know we are treading on old borders already broken down by time.

so is art about crossing borders? breaking rules and stretching the borders... eventually over-coming them entirely?

mmm ali got to think

no spankings

We're all grown up's here. Body art was a feature at the scope New York 2007. You'll have to do a lot more to shock us. Percetion is all in the eyes of the beholder.

an yeah ali shall keep keepin on..
cos art is about doing not talking eh

shock appeal?
Written by alison_oblivion on 2007-03-19 23:43:58
i think that hits the nail on the head - what i was tryin to say - why do we have to shock in art to consider it to be a "good" piece of work? i think thas wot i tryin to get at... yeah.

i reckon i not wanna "try" for shock appeal. should not try too hard at all should flow. what comes out comes out. if it happens to "shock" is by the by. a secondary by-product perhaps even an inevitability.

but for me - the aim is "not to shock" but to make ponder... make think - to use art as a tool - a wave a bend a curve - a windy path to get to the answer. anything too way blatant loses the sense of "art" in art. but then - it really does depend on the exact circumstances as well as the message if any one is trying to get across with that work eh?

is hard to see the line most days - my mind is open so is hard to see the way "other" everyday kinda non-art people perceive what video art is all about or how they judge it. nothing much shocks me - i have become comfortably numb

so when/ if i get a jolt is good - ya. thas all 4 now
ok i shurrup
comparison please?

could you - one of you any of you view "woman is a flower"? and comment - does it get the point across? - does the video link "woman as a flower"/ as fragile/ vulnerable... in this instance the "baring" of the vagina makes sense. could not be achieved any other way.
yet it is still subtle - not blatant. which is for me the space where art resides.

am currently working on anti-rape campains (Freedom town and Darfur/ Iraqi)... using myself and video to project various messages.

thanks.
