Alternate Title : GreaseMonkey Rocks the Oil Standard
Warning: [PAM] encourages it's viewers to follow copyright law when ever possible. The following article most likely breaks at least more than a few copyright laws.
That being said, we're always in the mood for a good hack and totally understand the need to have that really obscure backwoods T&A video from YouTube on your soon to be broken video capable iPod**.
The one bright spot that you can pat yourself on the back for (if you follow) and the only redeeming quality of this article is that we're prompting you to install Michael Mandiberg's Oil Standard project which is both fun and educational. By doing so it should raise your net art awareness and net coolness factorwith your friends and co-workers beyond just being able to chat about that hottie you've been stalking on Myspace. Which is both scary and long since categorized in the tired column.
Directions.
1) Install FireFox 1.5. - if you haven't don so already.
2) Open Firefox - you'll need to have it running to install the GreaseMonkey Extension and the OilStand and YouTube jack scripts.
3) Follow the very detailed directions found on Turbulance on how to install the GreaseMonkey extension and OilStandard script. This will prime you for the TubeRaider script. see http://www.turbulence.org/Works/oilstandard
Michael Mandiberg's OilStandard working it's magic on our next subscription to King Magazine
4) Once you've completed all that proceed to the Tuberaider article for directions on installing the Joshua Kinberg YouTube/Google Video hack.
5) Once the script is properly installed you should now have a red bar at the top of each YouTube video page that lets you save the FLV file to your desktop.
YouTube: where there's T&A amateur video-a-plenty. Now you can have it all for yourself.
6) Now you can get creative and begin to cross compress using VLC , or After Effects or perhaps Compressor. Stick the video in your video capable ipod**, use it in your next mash up/remix video, stick where the sun..., well you'll know what to do with the wealth of great video content.
** Rumor has it that the video (capable) ipod is not the official "VIDEO IPOD" and Apple has been holding out on releasing the real deal once they clear the legal end of a few patents. Think of an Ipod with no mechanical surface controls but instead with a multi-gestural lcd touch screen. See "Will the Real Video Ipod Please Step Forward".
