| Short Bio: |
My work is a hybrid of sculpture and video. Initially, I amconcerned with formal issues of color, material, and physicality. Idocument a staged deconstruction of an item on video. The footagebecomes new material for building a "sculpture" that exists in time.Personality organically grows from the process and attaches itself tothe forms, paralleling how personality or identity is developed in ahuman. The videos begin to reference human emotion, potential, intention, growth and identity.
Desserts are designed to be enticing, and one's optical experience ofthem can be visceral. Typically desserts are round, square, rectangular, and/or brightly colored. I am interested in the phenomenaof attraction and how it connects to form, as well as how visual memorycan remain affixed to a material even after its deconstruction andparticipate in the construction of identity.
Through a process of selecting, destroying, manipulating andre-building, I create anthropomorphic forms that appear to exist intime and space. My interests lie in the construction of identity andits relation to form. Each item I select has its own physicallimitations. As they are deconstructed their inherent characteristicsorganically create a unique personality. Erin was born in 1975 in Jackson, Mississippi. She lives and works inLos Angeles. CA.
