| Short Bio: |
Sophie Sindahl-Invernesse and Michael Lisnet are Brooklyn-based artists working collaboratively using photography, video and sound installations to question gender roles and media influence. They examine the creation of roles in our culture by the repeated use of an action or idea over time. Drawing from sources as varied as iconic old master paintings, the Internet, film, news media, advertising, and digital technology, their work moves through history from traditional ways of making art to the most modern. Narrative in style, the installations use technology to explore charged and provocative stereotypes and look to find meaning in the connections between the past and the present.
Ms. Sindahl-Invernesse is a recent MFA graduate from The City University of New York, Brooklyn College, where she studied with Vito Acconci and Elizabeth Murray. Prior to that Ms. Sindahl-Invernesse studied at The University of Paris-Sorbonne, and received her BFA from The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mr. Lisnet is a graduate of The School of Visual Arts who's work can be seen in Vogue, Men's Vogue, Time, The New York Times, PBS.
