The swiss / luxembourgish artist has studied painting and videoart at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf, Germany. In 1990, she stayed for 6 months in Paris at the 'Cite  Internationale des Arts' with a grant. Since 1993, Thyes participates in exhibitions and festivals. Since 1999, the artist focuses on videoart, animation, photography and digital imagery.

In 2007, MALTA AS METAPHOR receivs funding from the Swiss Federal Office of Culture; MULTIPLE MADONNA is shown at Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow (UK). FLAG METAMORPHOSES at URBAN SCREENS Conference + Public Art Events in Manchester (UK).

2008, FLAG METAMORPHOSES at 'Nothing to declare', Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen (DE). In August and September, the artist workes at Glasgow with a grant.

2009: FLAG METAMORPHOSES at 'Building Paradise', 7+Fig Art Space, Los Angeles. June - August: 'Speeded Up Flags and Slowed Down Heroes', solo show at Kunstverein Rhein-Sieg in Siegburg (DE).

2010: In April, FLAG METAMORPHOSES is installed at Halle Zehn in Cologne. In June, Thyes workes in Zurich, and in August in Macedonia. Sep. till Oct., FLAG METAMORPHOSES is installed at ON-OFF Artprojects in Hamburg. GLOBAL VULVA, DEPRESSION MARQUIS, and other videos are shown in several festivals.

November 2010 - January 2011: solo show MALTA AS METAPHOR (photography and video installation) at Kunstverein Bochumer Kulturrat in Bochum, Germany.

2011, Jan. - March: SONGS OF THE SWAMP, group show, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna, Austria. July - Sep: CONNECT - art between media and reality, Shedhalle Zurich, Switzerland.

2012, January - March: GLASGOW STYLES / MAGNIFY MALTA - solo exhibition at Kunstverein Duisburg and book launch of the photography book (of the same title).

Continuously growing and animated by as many participating artists from across the globe as possible, the flags of all nations in the world are morphed into each other through flash animation. Between each two flags, scenes appear that show an aspect of the relations between the two countries.
This series of animations is an exploration into the meaning of imagery on flags, aiming to create interrelated associations through questioning, reassessing, fluidizing and re-mixing of diverse national iconography.

FLAG METAMORPHOSES lays stress on the relations between nations and identities as changing ones: Only in the permanent re-creation of values, symbols and ways of life, in mixing with others and differing from others, cultures and societies stay alive. Each artist who creates a flag animation expresses such a relation in his/her own way. You can contribute, too!
