Short Bio:

As a graduate of Alfred University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and minor in dance, Elizabeth is now pursuing a life in art.  Elizabeth has just finished working on several projects; one of which is a commission of portraits and landscapes in pastel.  A native of the Hudson Valley she has involved herself in the community.  Working with artist Spencer Tunick as well as muralist

Garin Baker, and photographing special events at the Storm King Art Center.  A major influence in Elizabeth’s development as an artist, is pastel master Gayle Clark Fedigan, traveling with her to Italy to study landscape painting.

In addition to painting and photography,Elizabeth is currently teaching and performing Tribal Fusion Bellydance.  With nineteen years of dance experience, she has explored many styles such as Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop, Butoh, and African.  Middle Eastern Dance, her true passion, has been an area of focus in most recent years, studying with fellow professional bellydancers such as Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, Zafira Dance Company, and Ashara.  Elizabeth is currently teaching

Tribal Fusion Bellydance at Brid’s Closet in Cornwall, Studio 208 in Cornwall on Hudson, and Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, as well as workshops all over the region!  She has performed for festivals and celebrations such as Samhain, Yule, and Beltane, sharing the stage with Raquy and the Cavemen, as well as dancing in restaurants, group shows, and Haffla’s.

Fusing traditional middle eastern dance movements with modern sensibilities, as well as drawing from her training in art, Elizabeth has a unique brand of Tribal Fusion Bellydance.  She has been described as playful, elegant, graceful, powerful, and passionate, as she accesses this sensual art form with sophistication and class.

She likes to keep it classy and sassy and shake it ancient!!

Additional Comments: Nature and mythology are intrinsically interwoven, and both drive my art making. Deeply connected with nature, I strive to reclaim it. We are nature. Our bodies are earth, our souls like wind, and we feel the mysterious pull of our mortality and sensuality when engaged with the landscape. This reality is both internal and external. It includes ancient stories, past dreams, and the infinite space inside of us. A place where our minds escape and our bodies dwell-the human landscape. In the words of Marcel Duchamp, “Art must be part of life-not an interpretation of life, not a description of life, not an attempt to comment on or improve on life, but a piece of life itself.” It is because of this, that the human form is the medium in which I work. Utilizing multiple mediums including photography, video, sound, dance, and performance to convey experience, the body is always present, and is crucial to my process of relating ideas. Most essential is live performance, as the art is experienced as it is made. It is inside the performer. It is in their breath, their movements, and their stories, blurring the distinction between life and art.
