I currently work and livein New York City. I began taking photographs as a child in California and theview through the camera has ever since driven my desire to make art. I receiveda BA in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College in 1995, a BFA inprintmaking from CCAC in 2000 and an MFA in “combined media” from HunterCollege in 2007. I have received awards including the Yozo HamaguchiPrintmaking Award and have exhibited nationally, most recently at Photo Miami.This spring, I attended a residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. |

Using various strategies ofdocumentation, my work examines issues of identity and social representation byfocusing the lens on myself and my community. I explore the connections betweenconstructed space and constructed subjectivity through sculpture, photography,video and projection. The spaces I create – queer, safe, architectural andemotional – form a critically reconstructed mirror of reality, an alternativeenvironment in which all forms of intimacy are allowed to be visible. I usesocial and visual material of my own life to represent spaces of transformativepotential and desire. |
