Originally from India, Priyanka Dasgupta currently resides in New York City, where she continues to pursue her career as a visual artist with a primary focus in video installation. She has recently completed the ‘AIM (Artists in the Marketplace) Program’ at the Bronx Museum, a residency that culminated in an exhibition of her work, at the museum, from June through October 2005. Her videos have been screened and exhibited at multiple venues in both Europe and the US. These include the 2:13 Festival in Athens, the LOOP Video Festival in Barcelona, Video Dictionary at the Impakt Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands, New Screen Television in Florida, Video Formes in France, and The Island Art Film and Video Festival in London.
Since graduating from New York University and the International Center of Photography, Priyanka has also been working as a Teaching Artist, making contemporary art and artists accessible to students and teachers in the Public Schools in the city. She is a recipient of an NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) grant to introduce video installation to High School students, and is currently working with Studio in a School towards integrating technology based art into the Public School art curriculum alongside the more traditional mediums of painting and sculpture. The experience of using art to help children rediscover their world has helped her better articulate her own artistic goals, and she hopes to create a body of work that could be used by future educators to enrich the lives of others.
